UPDATED: 8:29 am PST November 21, 2008

An armed man led officers Friday on a high-speed car chase and a brief foot pursuit in Grant Hill before he was arrested, police said.

The car chase began when a patrol officer attempted to pull the man's vehicle over for a traffic violation at Dodson and Imperial avenues around 1:45 a.m., San Diego police Sgt. Rich Nemetz said. It ended at 25th and K streets when the man crashed into a parked car and fled on foot, he said.

As he got out of his vehicle, he dropped a handgun on the ground, picked it up and ran away, according to Nemetz.

Several officers followed on foot and found the man sitting with the handgun in his lap in the south alley of the 2200 block of K Street, Nemetz said, adding that he was arrested and taken to county jail.

His name was not immediately reported. Police described him as a man in his 20s.
